You can make holidays crafts to make this important day special for you and your family. The decorations almost always involve turkeys. It is a common thing to ask the child to draw around the turkey's hand and then make her drawing accordingly. The thumb is taken as the head and the fingers are considered as the feathers of the tail which are displayed nicely. Nowadays mostly white turkeys are raised for food however the Pilgrims ate wild brown ones at the first Thanksgiving. The wild variety has brown tail feathers but they appear multicolored when light falls on them. This is probably the reason behind children painting the tail feathers in different shades of bright colors.
Turkey's beak has a wattle underneath it. It's actually a red colored loose skin flap. You must make sure that you draw this because this make the turkey's hand look like a turkey. Don't forget to add bird feet and skinny legs. Children can cut the turkey once it is fully drawn. They can then hang it on the wall. You can make the turkey of different sizes. Make turkeys according to the hand sizes of all the family members. The little hand shapes will look very sweet and cute. You can also do turkey door decoration. This is another nice way of making holidays crafts in Thanksgiving. Use a brown construction paper to make the body and head of the turkey. You should then make feather shapes in different colors. Before attaching the feathers to the tail of the turkey, make sure that all the family members write on each feather about something that they are thankful for. Now put the turkey on your entrance gate to greet visitors with a message of gratitude. You should not forget to make a sign with the turkey. The sign can be anything from 'Give thanks to the Lord for He is good' or just simple thanks! You can also make construction paper chains. Children love to make these chains. You can add up to the decoration of Thanksgiving with the help of these chains. Paper chain can be made in fall colors. Use a construction paper which is anywhere between nine to twelve inches. The paper should be cut into two halves across the long side. Now the halves should be cut into 6 inch long strips of one inch thickness. Make a circle by attaching the ends of a strip using a stapler. Now use another strip to make a similar loop. Keep on making similar loops of various colors like red, brown, orange and yellow. Make long chains and you can then put them along the railing or the ceiling. You can write messages on each strip in case you haven't made the door turkey. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday. You should never ignore it because of the other commercial holidays. Make holiday crafts to make this day special.
